About our Logo

The Maya hieroglyphs offer us some of the greatest insights into the life and world of the ancient Mayas of Guatemala.  Ancient history is recorded in these “glyphs,” which are a series of symbols arranged in an orderly fashion so as to depict a specific message.

The ancient glyph to depict “journey” was the foot.

No ancient glyphs were found for hope but the iguana was seen as a very valuable and precious animal that symbolized being on the move toward goodness.

In the logo, the iguana glyph (top half of the logo) is loosely translated into hope. The arrow points to the iguana cheek and the iguana is curled up with its head facing backward.

The “C” shaped symbol to the left of the iguana and foot glyphs serve to hold the two glyphs together and symbolize connectedness and a movement forward.

The cross that sits in the midst of the journey glyph would not have been found in ancient glyphs but it is added here, in the center of the journey and uplifting the hope that is ours in Christ Jesus.

This logo—this glyph—symbolizes Journeys of Hope.
